@itgrrl@infosec.exchange If you listen to music as you shop in various stores at different times of the day you will see that it changes based on what they know of the demographics. They know (usually based on loyalty programs etm) that people who ‘grew through their teenage/early twenties’ usually shop at particular times. The shops play the music they ‘know’ at the times they shop to make them happy and they spend more money (because they stay in the store longer). If *you* shop at an unusual time (for you) then you will hear different music to when you usually shop. This is also true for exercise classes - for example, when the ‘old ladies’ do their aqua aerobics on a Friday morning, I hear lots of late-1960s/early to mid-1970s music. Meanwhile, in a different room for a step class, they are belting out late-2000s/early to mid-2010 music for that demographic. People don’t want to exercise the music they don’t recognise.

@Devorppa@aus.social yes, this is known but this was a very small café that only exists to extract some incremental revenue from people who are waiting for their cars to be clean. I really doubt in this instance that there was any deep spooky market segmentation magicks going on 💁‍♀️
