@david_chisnall@infosec.exchange the community is the community of people who share. Those who will not share exclude themselves; they are not excluded, because there is a simple action that they can take which would include them. And no: if you will not share and share alike, I do not give you permission to profit from my unpaid work. You can pay me.

@simon_brooke@mastodon.scot Please reread what you’ve written in this thread and do so from the perspective of someone approaching a project you run. This is how I would perceive it: You make the rules.Anyone who has a use case that is not one that you considered is weird and they need to talk to you about special cases. They’re almost certainly not community members but they might be permitted some special associate membership status if you agree.Anyone who doesn’t have a proven track record of being in the community and adding value to it is unwelcome.Anyone who wants to participate in the community must do so under exactly the conditions that you specify.There are two kinds of people who interact with you, good people who are happy to receive gifts from you and play by your rules and people who are evil but may interact with you if they pay you.If you can’t understand a complex legal document, you don’t deserve to be part of the community.If you don’t precisely follow the rules, you are an outcast who may interact with members of the community by paying them but may not have any other benefits. Good luck creating a vibrant community with that attitude.
