I’ve always had mixed feelings about Universal Basic Income because it’s often presented as a bandaid to capitalism rather than as an intermediary step to something better, especially the way tech CEOs have been talking about it in relation to AI where it feels more like they’re describing feudal lords making sure that the most basic needs of their peasants are met so the peasants can continue working

However, if a tech bro is talking about it, they're dangling just enough liberalism in front of you to make you ignore the giant capitalist monster they're cooking up that will eat us all alive. Don't believe them! But also, this is why billionaires fund liberals as well as conservatives. Liberals do just enough talking about fixing problems to convince people that they future will be okay while conservatives give them the tax breaks and deregulation they need to run over us all with a steamroller. The liberalism was never because they cared about people. It was just to give us enough hope to let our guards down.
