@mousebot thanks, I'll give that a look! It's in Technics & Time II! I haven't read I. (no doubt both reference Leroi-Gourhan — I know the name but not the writing so don't want to infer knowledge). I always find etymologies interesting starting points, and I love seeking out definitions of technology. One of my favourites is by Sara Hendren and Caitrin Lynch, who write from the perspective of disability engineering and claim concisely that 'all technology is assistive'.
