I'm so old I've had dozens of MRIs and always enjoy them. The noises can be pretty weird and checking those out in advance on YouTube is good advice. And you will feel thumps. That's the power of magnetism.
My best advice is to relax as much as possible (a zen-like state is ideal), breath steadily because the machine follows your breathing, and appreciate that this multi-million dollar machine is creating super-detailed 3D images of your insides.
I'm still in awe of MRI machines. They're nothing to be scared of.
