@ossobuffo I am merely a curious listener and reader, not a trained musician myself, so these technical subtleties are beyond my grasp. Still, your remark on triple-dotted notes sent me down some very interesting rabbit holes. Wow. Reading about some of Bruckner's technical idiosyncrasies, they almost make sense to my untrained mind and seem to align with my unreflected emotional response to his music. The Wikipedia entry on the Ninth has several references to triple dotted notes, eg in the discussion of the first movement. Either way, somehow I can picture a scene where Bruckner the conductor becomes very, very impatient with a musician who keeps getting the triple dot wrong: "Please, Herr Salzapfel, concentrate! Again you hold my triple-dotted A for an absolute eternity. You do know how to read the score, I trust? If I had wanted you to play a three-and-a-half dotted A, I would have said so! Let's do this again."
