@aj So I'm an USAian who has never been to the Southern Hemisphere.
Sidney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Darwin, Adelaide.
Brisbane and Darwin are warm. Brisbane is near the Great Barrier Reef.
Sidney: Big city. Opera house, Olympics, and stuff.
Melbourne: i have some colleagues who live there. Really dry most of the year. Cool rivers nearby (I'm a stream ecologist)
Adelaide is on the flying doctors show.

@aj@gts.sadauskas.id.au Can't believe I didn't say crocodiles for Darwin (having started the second season of Deadloch). I totally should have said crocodiles.
