I'm normally somebody who will tell you, or who will think, that you should just accept a compliment, because
- it's nice to the person giving it,
- it's good for the self to stop but-ing and hemming and no-you-see-ing.
Sometimes other people just see the good in us and we can't because we've developed... not a carapace, but more of a corneal extrusion, some scoria in our eyes, a pupillar cover, and we don't see the good in ourselves anymore.
But then again, if, say, you're 46 and somebody tells you you look 29, it kinda strains credulity. If, let's again say, somebody tells you what a great picture you took in every bit, and the picture is badly focused, badly composed and the good thing about it is what it encompasses and suggests...

There are, it is my position, better ways to tell somebody they look cute, or fresh, or young, without exaggerating that much. And there are ways to compliment a funny cat picture that made you feel good without saying it's the best thing ever ever ever.
