But the book makes reference to the first film that tried to depict a woman of the resistance, "Libera, Amore mio" (Libera, my love). The heroine is called Libera (“She is free”, played by Claudia Cardinale) a woman who breaks every rules and speaks her mind at every opportunity. Occasionally a bit melodramatic it is a fabulous, almost forgotten film made by Mauro Bolognini in 1975 a date that speaks volumes about how long it for Italian attitudes about women to shift. 2/n

To my astonishment it is available on YouTube. Watch it for inspiration as authoritarians come out of the shadows, a reminder of how many around you will compromise with the regime. Watch it because Mussolini's jaw came before Trump. Watch it for the beautiful shots of Módena (stress on the o, please) with its glorious arcades and unforgettable cathedral. Watch it for he savage twists at the end. #resistance #partisans #fascism #women #democracy #cinema /end https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctZIy2PNUiI
