I also want to be serious about something: we are literally losing the ability to control our own computers, and instead of building up capacity for technological resistance, we are fighting over which projects are "fascist". I'm not so naïve as to think that you can separate politics from software. But yeah, as soon as Ladybird is working, I'll use it. And if you don't like the person running it (the guy probably wants me dead, for one), we can fork it.

When a site went up criticising the bootlicker who added age verification to Linux, the people behind the site and those who supported them were smeared as "fascist" online. I don't know. I don't know about you, but I don't think it is a good thing when standing up for freedom of expression and freedom of computing gets "fascist-coded". To me that is an extremely dangerous moment. It wasn't a good thing either when something as simple as "educating kids in a critical socialisation window" became fascist-coded either. You had a lot of people who were like "Hmm, this is extremely life-changing and important, and so maybe I like what those fash people are saying." That was the outcome of identifying "rational policy on public education" with "support for eugenics" during the pandemic. You lost the whole game. The Culture War beckons, and then the same people speed-run themselves into defeat every single time in the same way, and we all lose.
