@lumi @signalapp @knoppix95 actually it’s a big improvement IMO. pretty much my biggest gripe with Signal right now is that it’s tied to my smartphone. should this fragile device constantly exposed to big danger suddenly turn into an ad-hoc projectile and become inoperable due to structural damage (this has already happened on at least one occasion) my Sigmal account will go poof along with all the chat. But if i can keep the primary login at my much more well-defended laptop this is no longer an issue the phone number thing sucks but is a distinct problem.

    @kimapr @signalapp @lumi Oh yea. Before, you could’ve Signal on desktop but it was tied to the smartphone session. Now, you can have separated instances and choose which device is the primary one.

    @kimapr @signalapp @knoppix95 the biggest issue with signal is that it's centralized, and this enables the second biggest issue: it requires unnecessary, very personal information to register this is even worse because in many countries, phone numbers are tied to your id, so this is effectively id verification
