@r Fair enough, but asking a "user" to install a plugin is installing software. And now they are conditioned to "install browser extensions" possibly of ill repute.
I'll also push back on "how many developers understand how to write native applications".
What kind of "developers" are you referring to ? Webapp programmers ?
I've written BIOS code and DOS Extenders and webapps. I think "developers" can figure out how to write a native app that does not require a browser plugin, without AI.

@jab01701mid oh, i think (and hope) that they _can_, but we're getting to the point where we have to teach/show them that they can especially judging by the examples you've listed, unfortunately time keeps passing and cultural/"institutional" knowledge keeps getting lost (i've lost track how many conversations i've been having recently about topics such as "bootstrapping", "linkage", "compiler toolchains", and similar "systems programming" infrastructure)
