@snowyfox visa diplomacy is heavily based on reciprocity—like, if our citizens wanna go to that other country, then we probably have to let that country's people come over here, cause otherwise why would they let us in.. but then if you're from a poorer country that desperately needs tourism, it kinda doesn't have that leverage, and wealthier countries don't have to allow you in to get favors.. so it's less which people are desired, and more, legal discrimination based on nationality. and then there's the eu, which uses its visa policy to blackmail other countries into accepting deportations and strengthening their own borders, so that people that would pass through them on their way to the eu, stay where they are instead..
