@ewen Something I've noticed is that this is the true meaning of abundance. You have to invest and you get something back, and the thing you get back is vastly greater than the thing you invested, but the timing is not upto you. Nature decides, somehow, and that's true inside our minds as it's true outside. Inspiration strikes and we're not in control. Elizabeth Gilbert had a great talk about this[1]. I believe the real disease we have as a society is the desire to be able to switch these things, our moods, our minds, our surroundings, on clocks. "Time is money", that's the disease. Without a clock, could you even diagnose ADHD[2]? @ianrogers mentioned Scientific Management in his reply. Are we already seeing ourselves as cogs in a machine, and that's why we seem broken? [1] https://www.ted.com/talks/elizabeth_gilbert_your_elusive_creative_genius [2] Not denying it exists btw, I'm saying there are lots of things which society doesn't see as needing treatment. Like you can diagnose sociopathy, but do we tell CEOs to get treated?
