Now that the library does not assign fines for overdue books (it charges you to replace the item after enough time has elapsed) is it breaking a social contract to keep the books past the 3rd automatic renewal? No one has it on hold. I'm just slow at reading, and there's no fine now, so, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
