The last time I looked into bot defense, I learned about @algernon’s Iocaine https://iocaine.madhouse-project.org/, which I will share with our developers. (Cloudflare also has “Block AI training bots” feature, which I tried on my personal sites, but I see major events still get through.)
I welcome other suggestions!

@stewf Velvetyne's website has been struggling for weeks for the same reasons, our server giving up several times a week. We installed 2 new pre-emptive solutions and hope they will work. A last resort could be https://anubis.techaro.lol/
