@scuttlebutt@farticle.cloud I am not sure about that. We already make it pretty hard to engage folks in politics — and making sure no one can contact voters just makes it so that *only* people who can commercial lists will ever be able to reach large sections of the electorate.
That sucks and I experienced it in the 2021 municipal election (where a security scare stopped Elections Calgary from circulating a voters list).
It was awful. :/

@vsp@mastodon.world Maybe there shouldn't be any voter lists at all. Just some way at the polling place to validate that you live in the area and haven't voted more than once. Any info gathered to be destroyed by the poll workers immediately following the election. I enjoy politicians in my mail box, on my door step, on my telephone as much as I enjoy the bible thumpers doing the same things. Not at all.
