Also, managing your own website, that is more or less custom, is harder and more expensive, because it's not standard. Another thing is discoverability/aggregation: search engines have been somewhat reliable for only a small window of time in modern history, while on a platform you have a unique handle (yeah, I know, URLs could work, but people would have to pay for dns), and the algorithm "may" push you to your audience.
