@oblomov @NIGHTEN @doriane That's what I gathered as well considering performance artists (like drag or burlesque) However I'm pretty sure I made more money for a graphic artist when I purchased their prints at a fair IRL than thousands of their broke teenage followers (I'm exaggerating things but you catch my drift) Edit : because art is an expensive commodity. It's not enough that many people see what one does, one only needs somewhat "rich" people to see it.

  • @oblomov @NIGHTEN @doriane Also I don't get why many artists stopped creating even a simple, free wordpress website showcasing their art. It might be childish or old-fashioned to think that (I was born in 91), but having a web portfolio makes a stronger difference between the crowd of amateurs on social media and the few committed professionals.

@detours_anachroniques @oblomov @NIGHTEN i mean when i ask my friend who are using instagram for their art practice it's really not to sell art as a commodity, if they sell books, visuals, or plastic artwork it's not through instagram. what they need it for is for discoverability and collaboration opportunity: what i was explaining of someone showing your profile to someone else who is part of an instituons that can "book" you, or give you some subsidy or opportunity.
