Solved sekrets management for my budding NixOS pi application cluster (kinda :P)! In this case, it's transcrypt to the rescue: https://github.com/elasticdog/transcrypt ....I really should have initialised it in aes-256-ctr instead of the aes-256-cbc default tho.......
