@Waitman Gobble Did Bitcoin turn out to be a bit of a bubble, as the skeptics said it would? I haven't seen the analysis. Like you, I don't think that AI is quite the bubble that it has been made out to be in some quarters, at least not in the long term. Maybe in the short term because such an incredible amount of money is being dumped into it that it is probably impossible to live up to all the hype, within the time-frame that the investors would expect.
But for sure it's here to stay, for better or for worse.
In order not to repeat the mistakes of the past, maybe regulations should come into play, so that millions of workers are not left without jobs in the short term and more genocides like the gamified AI-assisted Gaza genocide do not become so facile. But I actually don't put too much in the likelihood of any such regulations being enacted. As with social media, such regulation usually comes too late, if it come at all. So we may just have to live (or die) with the consequences.
On a personal level, as I'm retired, financially independent, and have enough time on my hands, I am trying (struggling) to draw some sort of line in the sand regarding further dependence on huge, energy-wasteful infrastructures and their dependencies, such as crypto and AI. So far, I have been successful with at least those two. But I'm privileged - and it doesn't matter at all to the overall picture if there are a few stubborn individuals holding out and waving red flags.
