Out yesterday on the helpers ride route checking for next week's Oasts and Coasts 300 National. Good company. Fine weather. Challenging route in places. Rye to Hythe via Romney Marsh fills me with dread but to be fair it was not too bad yesterday. Nearly always against the wind for 40k on this stretch. Not so yesterday. Same goes for Birchington to Reculver, Whitstable to Graveney and the long insidious climb up to the top of Hollingbourne Hill through Newnham, Doddington and Ringlestone. Riding with seasoned audaxers made all the difference. I pushed myself much more than I do on a DiY. Stayed with it though, took my turn at the front and never got dropped.
