Now I am 4+ years on Fedi. I didn't find community for things I am interested (mostly gaming related) but I saw many positive, interesting, various and educational stuff. Many discussions that won't be in open or get hidden from main feed because Reddit/twitter/etc will hide it and only few invested people will talk with same few people. There lots of problems on Fediverse but at least I have options to be here without forced official mobile app, recommended content and of course the changes that you never wanted. Thanks YouTube but I want my subscriptions in chronological order, I dont need most relevant or video shorts. You can manipulate home page and feed algorithm but don't break stuff that works as intended. I think it's biggest thing I like about Fediverse, you can't break things that work as intended else you move to other software that will keep things as you like.
