With "Web Environment Integrity", Google wants to privatize the web. Results: - web pages w/copyrighted content won't be accessible anymore with non-Chrome web browsers - users' web activity will be fully tracked @Tweakers@mastodon.social @volkskrant@mastodon.nl @Trouw@mastodon.nl https://www.fsf.org/blogs/community/web-environment-integrity-is-an-all-out-attack-on-the-free-internet

@fsfe@mastodon.social @gael@mastodon.social Yes. About a week ago. We tried to have the FSF produce a special link to the defectiveByDesign version of the article. Something like: defectivebydesign.org/google-chrome It would be good to have a descriptive, short and sharp URL like that. Unfortunately, we don't think they were able or willing to do it.

@gael@mastodon.social @fsfe@mastodon.social I hope Firefox and the rest of non-Chromium browsers will do something like adding a notification warning "This website complies to a privatized web. [More info]()", or something like that to bring awareness to the general public. Moreover, if users are tracked behind the scenes, what about #GDPR compliance?

@gael@mastodon.social @fsfe@mastodon.social Would this fly in the EU? With GDPR in place and Google trying to monopolize the internet, I think they would insist on users' freedom? (I'm so petty that if this comes to pass, I will block all Chromium browsers from my sites 😂)

@gael@mastodon.social @fsfe@mastodon.social - Browsing the web will require a google account for no reason, just like installing an app on android. (only certifying people using chrome logged into a google account is the next logical step to this)
