@Ambulocetus@mefi.social A related quote I can't stop sharing these days: "The US is also a one-party state. But with typical American extravagance, they have two of them."—Dr. Julius Nyerere, first president of Tanzania

@Ambulocetus@mefi.social Old jokes about life under the Soviet Union's totalitarianism are ripe for repurposing, e.g. A young man, fresh off twelve hours of binging on Andrew Tate videos applies for a job with ICE. He's offered the job. "Ok," he asks, "and how much does it pay?" The interviewer's brow furrows. "We give you a gun, masked anonymity, and immunity from prosecution for murder. If you still need a salary, I'm not sure you're cut out for this."

  • @raganwald @Ambulocetus (I like the “two-faced one-party system” rephrasing)

@raganwald @Ambulocetus Auch laut Gore Vidal: „There is only one party in the United States, the Property Party … and it has two right wings: Republican and Democrat. Republicans are a bit stupider, more rigid, more doctrinaire in their laissez-faire capitalism than the Democrats, who are cuter, prettier, a bit more corrupt — until recently … and more willing than the Republicans to make small adjustments when the poor, the black, the anti-imperialists get out of hand. But, essentially, there is no difference between the two parties”
