An odd bit of language I've seen over the past few years: My _______ Where the blank is something owned by big tech. Years ago, it was "My Facebook," which no doubt was short for "my Facebook account." Later it was "my algorithm." Now it's "my chatbot." NONE OF THESE ARE YOURS, PEOPLE

    @rwg@aoir.social it's a disturbing sign—in English, "my" can either connote possession ("my bike") or kinship ("my brother"). The idea that so many people have been tricked into believing either of those things about something like Facebook is ... Not Good

    @rwg@aoir.social People used to ask (until apparently I started exuding anti-corporate dissent?) "Do you have Facebook?" and there were only so many ways to respond to that 😄
