Anyone can respond to this DEFRA #consultation affecting England, Wales, Scotland, and N Ireland,
about a proposed ban on keeping laying hens, pullets, and breeder layers in #cages.
The purpose is to seek views on the preferred policy proposal - Option 1, so it would be best to read the guidance notes beforehand for proper detail.
This consultation opened 12 Jan 2026
and closes at ⏰ 11:59pm on 9 March 2026.

Mind you, most people couldn't care less: from BBC news site today 'Retailers such as M&S and Waitrose and cafe chains Pret and Greggs remain members of the BCC.'(Better Chicken Commitment ~ not using fast-grown chickens), but the rest of UK outlets just want giant, spindly-legged chickens to sate their slavering jaws. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cm2r6jqm042o
