@simonbp@social.linux.pizza I'm sure you remember the story when the stealth ideas were put up to a secret industry contest. Lockheed's scale model went up on the pole and the radar operator scoffed, saying he could see it. Then the bird sitting on it flew away. Poof! It completely disappeared from the radar.
I had heard that story before. But it was fun to hear it again (and confirmed) from a pilot who flew the F-117 when he was in the Air Force.

@ikluft@avgeek.social IIRC Lockheed got a not-small contract to develop a stealth pole because the pole's radar return was several orders of magnitude greater than the Hopeless Diamond
