Daughter would like record player for birthday. Anyone bought one in UK recently and would recommend?

  • @cymplecy I have the Audio-Technica LP60X and it's pretty good. They also do a USB version if that's useful. I tend just to look at Richer Sounds for this sort of stuff.

@cymplecy Whatever you do, I wouldn't buy one of those suitcase-style ones. They're record killers. I bought this for one of my daughters and was impressed with the sound, given that it has a built-in speaker https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B086WTSMQH?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_3&th=1

@cymplecy I have a Sony PS-LX310BT and that is a great one. Comes with a build-in preamp and Bluetooth, which might sound a little bit strange, but is a great feature

@cymplecy not to be super negative but... you might want to be careful around vinyl records https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZ2czFuIYmQ

@cymplecy bought in Germany, but I'm sure it's also available in the UK https://www.audio-technica.com/turntables/all/at-lp70xbt It's a great deal IMO, has solid features (Bluetooth, cinch, optional internal amp, auto stop and start with press of button) and looks nice It's a bit plastic-y and lighter than expected, but still looks premium

  • @cymplecy the Audio Technica AT-LP60X should be easily had in the UK, it has a built in phono preamp so it can be plugged directly into speakers or an unamplified line-in without also needing an amplifier. It sounds good, it's well built, and they're one of the lower cost good quality decks on the market.
