It's crazy to me that the NASA Perseverence and Curiosity rovers found compelling evidence for past life on Mars, and the US cancelled the mission to retrieve the samples.

$11 Billion was too much to retrieve the samples but, at least that much was spent on just missiles in the first week of the pointless Iran war.
