@futuresprog @essjax Ah... You have this EXACTLY backward.
The US uses the system of measurements that was in effect when it declared independence. In 1824 the UK redefined its system of measurements.
For a change the USA is actually in the right on something related to measures. Sort of. (I mean they're **both** horribly, horribly wrong. The USA is just slightly less horribly wrong.)

That is an interesting timeline. However, I get a different lesson: The UK tried to fix their mistakes in 1824, 1965, and 1973. The US took what they had in 1776 as gospel, immutable, hallelujah, until a few small efforts in 1968 and 1975, and then — uh-oh here comes a familiar name — Reagan wrecked it all in 1982. @ZDL @essjax
