Indeed. The first time I really read about how the various banking / finance / etc system actually worked, my system designer gut instinct kicked in, and I just immediately got that "this thing is inherently unstable / buggy / unreliable" feeling... 😬

I recently rewatched Inside Job about the 2008 GFC. Slightly before my time. There are plenty of places to make money from fixing inefficiencies. It also depends a lot on regulatory and ratings bodies doing the correct thing and in a timely fashion. US always seems to be a bit slow in applying laws. @aligorith @rogerparkinson @chopsstephens @stephen
