Been reorganising and partly rewriting the low level SD card SPI code for the W65C265SXB. Couldn't get anything to work reliably. Weird noise on the MISO line, not the clean idle state, but still some kind of response to the initialisation sequence. Checking for dodgy jumper wire connections, trying out old revisions of the code, etc. Then finally realised that I had not turned on the power supply output to the SD card, so whatever it was doing was off whatever current it was leeching off the signal lines, through internal paths. I think I'll go to bed now.
