#VGMWednesday I was thinking, what other games do I know that take place rummaging through our beloved Solar System. I had a pretty clear answer from a spacefaring game that's been long on my mind. Let's take a DESCENT into it shall we? You can freely move in six directions, go ahead and wrap your head around it because that's effectively how space travel works when you're not just blasting out of an atmosphere I mean. I'm gonna need a fucking joystick. So I finally make it to the game's first boss which is as far as you get in the shareware and hot damn what a fight it is. And after all of that the game is now warning me you're in the thick of it for real and the music really gives it away. A deep dark undertone that belies a mashup of an inspiration. We're talking Peer Gynt and his mother dying kind of shit. If I was going to make a fancy writing piece here would be a good place. Shoutouts to all the dead mums out there.
