“What would you/they do if #Nazi Germany-ish powers started rising and conquoring?” Did adults ask this question of us in grade school with legitimate curiousity? No, they intend to convey an equivocal, sideways message: that #ethics questions pertain to the past. The real questions for students are: given the immediate threat of the federal government, what are you going to do, how are you going to respond to white supremacy and fascism which create conflict and misery in your actual, current life? The history/book/official fantasy according to U.S. education: nuclear bomb created worldwide peace when U.S. dropped them on japan. Instantly, Germany surrendered and soldiers chewing bazooka bubble gum rescued the survivors. They want(ed) students to believe the fight against white supremacy/national aggression was/is hypothetical. And not even tangentially related to the other question adults ask children, “What do you want to do when you grow up/What job do you want?"
