@aschmitz @ruari I feel somewhat lucky to be a half hour walk (~10 minute bike) from a near grocery store and a 15 minute walk from both a drugstore and a convenience store. I mostly don't have to interact with traffic. I cross the road three times to get to the grocery store, and two of the three have little traffic. My road bike doesn't do winter with its thin tires, but I can walk all year.
