What an unfortunate strawman forced to work on FOSS "or die in poverty" by these nasty bosses you invented.
If you maintain a reasonably sized FOSS project you will soon find lots of not enjoyable subsidiary tasks that must be done. And aside from those are the users, with literally thousands of complaints and demands.
It might have started with "intellectual puzzles" but it will inevitably become unpaid, unthanked grind.
Coding assists are a godsend.
