Spruced up the #Emacs and #i3w setup by adding a #feh script to the i3w workspace-switching keybinds to set a different wallpaper for each workspace. Particularly effective with the see-through Emacs clients (connected to a background daemon) sitting in different workspaces for media, notes, email, feeds and so on, with each workspace getting its own distinctive look and the backdrops actually enhancing the buffer layout.

This setup was brought about by my annoyance at not immediately knowing which Emacs client I was in, particularly when I started reading ebooks with nov-mode and couldn't differentiate at a glance between the clients for books and the RSS feed. The i3bar has icons but they're tiny even when I display the bar, which is less and less often these days: I flip it on to check the time and sometimes RAM usage, basically. With this unmistakable visual distinction between the buffers I'll no longer be disoriented about which workspace I'm on, and won't need to peer at itty-bitty icons or have precious screen space taken up by the task/status bar. I'm an Old and need things to be extremely unsubtle and loud lol.
