intended for rural or semi rural areas , these dwellings would be independent of grid services . some services (waste treatment , some food , space and water heating) would be provided at the household level , others (electricity , water , cooking gas & some food) at the community level , where economies of scale make shared facilities cheaper .

vision 4 / autonomous terrace , drawn by clifford harper , radical technology (1976) the scheme is described in detail on pages 166-7 , it's not so much autonomous as it is communal space reorganized to become workshops , bakery and sauna , launderette , coffee shop . gas electric & water supplied from the mains , but the community treats its own sewage . 📚 #solarpunk
