This is not an easy read, but it’s helping me get a grasp of what AI really means. I need to read it a few more times, and I’m not sure I’ll ever completely understand it. But it’s helping me move on from my original stance of “All AI is bad” to understanding what it is (and isn’t) and what it can (and can’t) do (yet).
Of course, the possibility of malicious abuse is huge, which fuels my hostility to it.

@MPgh@mastodon.world @racebannon@woof.group For those not in the industry/science, it is NOT helping that the term is used for literally anything algorithmic now. The other things that aren’t helping is the industry putting itself deep into the shit and literally trying to force it on a population that doesn’t want it, in hopes that they can gain revenues that will eventually turn to profit. But also in doing all this create an increasing environmental catastrophe.
