...I just had a horrible model train idea. If one doesn't care about "realistic" looks (or if it's a model with hidden wheels like Kato's E5 Shinkansen, that thing's hell to put back on the track if it derails at a switch because of how the couplers work) take a page from electronics and plate the wheels and 'bearing surfaces' in hard gold for better electrical conductivity.
Mostly because my current track ass if the train isn't directly on top of one of the feeders unless I'm rubbing it down with contact cleaner every few days, probably because my layout isn't perfectly flat... (I don't have a foam plate I can trench wires into yet, so the track is bumped up where the feeder wires need to cross it. And the plywood 'tray' itself is currently sans legs for space reasons, so no drilling through the layout either...)
