i keep trying to remind myself that it's not really the tech I'm falling out of love with. It's what society is using the tech for, and who's controlling it. I miss the early web era. I miss community driven end goals. I miss progress for the sake of making people happier and more educated. In the end, I'm not unhappy with AI. Or tech. I'm unhappy with society and where it is headed vs where it was when I was younger. I remind myself, and then feel worse. Society is a harder thing to fix.

There's a world out there where the same AI tooling got here ethically, and was implemented ethically, and is used ethically. And it'd still have a ton of problems, but it'd also still have it's benefits. And *none of us would be worried about it*. Because it's not the tech that's the problem. It's who's running it, and how, and what they're doing with it. What wearies me is looking more broadly, it feels like the west is just crumbling from weakly implemented, exploited, democratic systems.
