@justvanrossum How, then, to explain the RoboFont documentation that clearly defines “production names” and “final names”? (Which, incidentally, align with my own definitions.) https://robofont.com/documentation/topics/production-names/

    @justvanrossum For what it’s worth – and speaking as someone who spent a lot of time creating and working with the Adobe “GlyphOrderAndAliasDB” – I’ve always used “final names” for those that end up in the compiled font. I probably used “production names” for the development phase, but we also called them “friendly” names.

    @slye Full circle! That's how this whole discussion started: I find that page wrong and confusing. I have for a looong time understood the term "production names" as "final names", and fontmake and Glyphs agree with me. https://typo.social/@justvanrossum/116190150746973414
