My PS5 has been overheating. I searched the internet and it said a few things: 1. Vertically standing it up is known to cause issues because the liquid metal drips down due to gravity leaving exposed spots. 2. It doesn’t use thermal paste, it uses liquid metal which is a new type of thermal dispersement… goo. It looks like mercury and it is unlike any liquid/solid I’ve evrer worked with. 3. The liquid metal, just like thermal paste, can need replacing. Because I’m me I decided to buy a tube of liquid metal ($9) and replace it. Followed a YouTube guide today despite having taken a PS5 apart before. It didn’t turn back on when I reassembled it and I panicked a bit. I thought it was the suspect ribbon cable and after taking it apart again it indeed was. Terrible clip/clamp thingy. All in all working with liquid metal was cool, I feel rad for having fixed my own PS5 (again), and the iFixIt electronics/computer kit thingy I have has seen a lot of use at this point. Well worth the $60 or whatever I paid.
