@Popehat
I suspect the dude was wired on crack or meth.
I have seen this before. One day, on highway (55 mph zone), this guy blew by me at minimum 80mph in heavy traffic. 'Oh shit' I thought, this idiot is going to cause an accident. Sure enough, a mile later.
This idiot had skidded across most of the lanes, hit a barrier wall on the right, and then skidded back across (3 lanes), and hit the center median. I could see the skid marks.
Plenty of cars involved, but looked like no serious injuries, the other cars made it to the shoulders.
As I crept past (within feet), the dude was out of his car screaming that he could not believe what happened.
I can. He was wired. You do not go 80 mph in a 55 mph zone during rush hour. Not a good idea even if you are sober.

@SpaceLifeForm @Popehat They're out there. In my case, it was after dark about 10 miles N of St. George, UT on I-15, and a car passed me doing almost twice my speed, about 110. I started down a hill as he was climbing up the next one, and his headlights veered off the road to the right, and sailed off about a 30ft drop. I didn't have much doubt he'd bought it, and told 911 so. By the time I was passing St. George, they had the EMT response heading back up the road. On the road, stupidity can erase life in a blink of an eye.
