When I first heard the news, I wondered if my old research station in Wenatchee was affected. Sure enough: Looks like the PNW Research Station is being shut down: https://www.kuow.org/stories/forest-service-axes-most-research-stations-as-severe-fire-season-builds-in-pacific-northwest These decisions are unfathomably stupid, being made by the worst byproducts of US capitalism. Whether they're grifters shilling for corporate interest or religious zealots using their apocalyptic dogma as a shield for their psychopathy...they all have a vested interest in seeing these stations and researchers shut down. Literally my dream job would have been a permanent role at this station. I loved this place -- the people and the work and the city and the long-term studies being run out of here...they were all awesome. As good as it gets.
