@bammerlaan in addition to the good advices other already gave you, I'd say that the first few stitches are always the most difficult, because you can't get a good grip on what you already did (because it is too small). Also, although it can be frustrating, you can always easily undo what you did if you're not happy with it (or continue your square/rectangle with a bad start, you'll improve along the way – that's why I think starting crochet by doing just squares is good: you just don't care about the past and only work on improving your skills!)
