@hisham_hm in Britain we've already created a crisis in automotive and skilled trades by companies not investing in training during good times (and paying the few apprentices they did hire very low wages) - now there's a big shortage of mechanics and no easy solution as even when skilled salaries are high, the apprentice wages are stil too low (so only any good for young people living with parents and even they can make more delivering parcels if they have a driving licence)

    @vfrmedia @hisham_hm On a related note, I really wonder how many people know that California has had a program since 1982 where employers pay a small additional payroll tax, and then companies apply for money from that tax fund to perform additional training, new hire training, and some of it goes towards apprenticeship training as well. So it forces companies to deliver training if they want that money back. And I'm pretty sure it has contributed to the stength of the California economy.
