@InfinityBear I use Unraid on an old HP Gen 8 microserver. It's not free but it also wasn't expensive. Before that I was using a hacky version of the Synology OS but their storage format is proprietary and I got twitchy about losing stuff if the hardware I was running it on died. I have 4 big harddrives in there with redundancy if one fails, I think that's RAID 5. But your important stuff should also be backed up somewhere else, remember! If you only have one backup, you don't have a backup.

@InfinityBear Oh I just remembered you need a possibly hard to get USB stick for the license to run unraid, has to be USB 2 and smallish storage and have a unique ID. Lots of the cheap ones you find online are cloned and have the same ID, and the decent brands don't make small USB 2 ones any more.
