@NOS and Omroep Gelderland report that a Dutch frigate could be tracked using a 5 Euro tracker sent by military mail (only packages are scanned, not letters): https://nos.nl/artikel/2610818-locatie-nederlands-marineschip-kon-achterhaald-worden-met-bluetooth-tracker However, the simple BLE tracker would be a paperweight if there weren't smartphones nearby to pick up the beacons and report them. So the real problem seems to be that people on board carry smartphones, which can be followed by... a lot of companies/governments (US, South Korea, possibly China)?

@NOS The same surprised me when the French aircraft carrier was tracked through Strava. Strava is not the problem, it's the opsec failure of carrying a device that leaks data/is a little spy device on a military vessel.
